Ready to move a street, public space, or safety project from paper to pavement?
Street Plans offers customized Tactical Urbanism design workshops for cities, public agencies, community organizations, and project teams. Each workshop combines practical instruction with hands-on collaboration, helping participants build the knowledge, confidence, and shared direction needed to plan and deliver demonstration, pilot, or interim-design projects.
Workshops are tailored to local goals, project opportunities, and implementation challenges. A workshop may include:
- A site visit to document existing conditions, challenges, and opportunities
- An introduction to Tactical Urbanism principles, materials, and project delivery
- Hands-on exercises using the Guide’s material specifications and design resources
- Collaborative design activities focused on a priority street, intersection, bikeway, plaza, or public space
- Discussion of project goals, partners, permitting, budgeting, communications, maintenance, and evaluation
- Development of clear next steps for advancing a project toward implementation
Depending on the community’s needs, workshops may also include a temporary field installation that allows participants to work with materials and physically experience a proposed street design. The goal is not simply to generate ideas. It is to bring departments and community partners together, identify barriers, make key decisions, and create a realistic path from concept to action.
Street Plans has used this approach to help communities such as Fayetteville and Akron convene cross-departmental teams, explore priority corridors, develop pilot designs, compare materials, and build greater comfort with collaborative, rapid project delivery.
